h. coconut soup (best in state). A
i. lobster mango spring roll. B
j. sea bass. A (note they use the 3 flavor sauce - spicy, sweet, and sour: their's is Bangkok-style: leaning toward sweet (in south Thailand the same sauce is mostly spicy, in northern and north eastern Thailand it is more sour). B+?

a. Kobe Dog (The most expensive dog in the state- over $12, plus they only have valet parking - another $5 minimum, and by the time you pay tax and a tip at the table it's $20+ for a blasted hot dog. Is it worth it? The dog is kobe-style beef and is an A-, but not quite as good as Nathans and Oscar Mayer Classic - the two best dogs you can buy at stores of over 60 brands we've tested. This one is 3rd best for the meat alone. The buns are poppy-seed and the fixin's are nice. Overall a B+. The chile rates only a C+ so the chile dog gets a B/B+.

Best hot dogs / best hot dogs in America / best hot dogs in the U.S.

THE BEST STORE-BOUGHT HOT DOGS nationwide

REVISED 8 Aug 21

For best ice cream in the U.S, check out:http://tastetestersclub.blogspot.com/2013/05/best-ice-cream-in-u.html

We've tested all 60 brands and varieties we've found in Utah stores and while visiting other states, since our dog tests began in 1995.  We've had parties of up to 18 people testing them, and these are the winners:

In our 30 Sep 2014 test, the order changed from Nathan'as as number one for over two decades, to the following (these companies keep changing their spices apparently) as the top 2 have improved!

1. Oscar Mayer Select PREMIUM (free of nitrates!). Taste-wise, #1. It also has the added benefit of being the only great-tasting dog free of nitrates! (cancer-causing in many studies)

2.  Nathans.  The word has spread - so they're now everywhere.  Very pricey.  Retails for 6 bucks a pack but sometimes on sale for far less.

3. Premium Select, at Krogers/Smith stores

4. Hoffy (Hollywood's original) (in stores)

5. Oscar Mayer Classic. all beef. Unfortunately, as with Nathans, it has nitrates (which are carcinogenic).

6. Ball Park Angus.

OTHERS TESTED FROM SAVED NOTES, AMONG ABOUT 60 BRANDS TESTED"
Trader Joe's All Natural Uncured Beef C+
A&H Kosher Beef B-
Golden West Certified Angus Beef since 1978 B/B
Niman Ranch B+
Hebrew National B- -
Meiers Gover. dogs B/B+

Third, BEST STORE-BOUGHT POLISH SAUSAGES, SMOKED SAUSAGES, BRATS, etc. nationwide

1. Hillshire Farms Polska Kielbasa
2. Hillshire Farms Knockworst

These two were the top two in the mid-90's when we first tested. But Nathans, Hebrew National, and certain Johnsonville's are very good now too.

cream of crab soup: B/B+ top liquid; with crab at bottom: B+/A-, with 2/3T of sherry: liquid alone B+, with 2/3 T of sherry including crab at bottom: B+/A-. Note: any more sherry than 2/3 T per 10 oz soup is too strong!

NOTE ON SHERRY MEASUREMENTS:
1. .67T per 10 oz = 3.3% sherry in soup x 20% max ABV (alcohol by volume) = .66% ABV (note that most sherry is 17-19% ABV).
2. Tested with sherry at 1.8% ABV: far too strong!
3. Tested with brandy at same volume per #1 above (3.3% brandy in soup) x 40% max ABV = 1.3% ABV (far too strong! and flavor even worse; so, with less brandy than sherry, it's clear that brandy is not as good a mix as sherry with crab soup).
4. In future, do legal "non-alcoholic" volume of .5% ABV. This equates to about 55-61% of a T (tablespoon) of sherry per 10 oz soup (at 17-20% ABV sherry). Thus, the serving size would be slightly over 1/2 T = .5% ABV.
5. If making non-alcoholic hard liquor flavored ice cream, add 1/4 T per 10 oz of ice cream for .5% ABV. If using sherry, use 1/2 T per 10 oz of ice cream. (Sherry has about 1/2 the ABV of liquor like bourbon and vodka: 17-20% vs 35-40%.)
