Mi Ranchito, Utah chain
Note 1: Not to be confused with the "Ranchito" chain in Utah, rated further below.
The Mi Ranchito chain has some restaurants with the Mi Ranchito name, while other restaurants in the chain don't use the name. However, they all have a similar menu and recipe, such as Maria Bonita's and Mama Chu's in Orem, MexSal in Provo, and Ernesto's in St. George, plus others in the state. We feel that Mama Chu's is the best of the bunch for the items tested below. We also feel that the Orem Mi Ranchito and others using that name are the second best, and that Maria Bonitas is the weakest, at least for the menu items listed below. (Maria Bonitas in Orem does however have our favorite ambience in the chain, followed by the original Mi Ranchito, also in Orem.) The difference among the places is due to the fact they all have different owners - relatives and friends of the owner of the original restaurant started in 1982 in Orem, just north of the Scera Theater. While the menus and taste of the food items are to some extent different, the tell-tale sign that a restaurant is part of this "chain" is the combinations" section on the menus. For example, at all the restaurants in this chain, our favorite combo, "chile relleno and cheese enchilada" is #38 at every location.

Note 2: We have tested most items on the menu. The ones below are the ones most recently tested, and are from the original Orem location:

They split the dog in half lengthwise and spread it open to make it like a sandwich, which works best so theirs is not too much meat in the bite, unlike most places that are too meaty with a jumbo dog. Sportz Dogs Food Truck (CALL THEM FOR THEIR LOCATION EACH WEEK:
a. Hot dog. Call them at 801-764-0463 to learn their schedule - usually at events and farmers markets and lunch weekdays outside companies like Vivent. Now serving Nathans. They make a killer BBQ/teriyaki sauce (similar to J Dawgs, not as sweet, and better to some, plus a mustard garlic ranch sauce (we prefer the BBQ/teriyaki but it's worth trying both). They wrap their all beef dogs in a fresh scone! We recommend raw onions only at one end, and coleslaw at the other half, for the two best options. (We have found that for places not having tomato/onion/pickle/mushroom (like Mooya Burgers), just onions or just coleslaw make the best dogs, with either fry sauce - like Mooya's - consisting of half ketchup and half mayo - or brown sweet sauce like this place, J Dawgs, and Rocco's uses.  HINT: Have them slice the dog in half length-wise and spread the two halves apart, per the "Hint" above, so each bite does not have so much hotdog meat.  A
